Dog tired

Well, we picked up the new little mutt on Friday night and I’m impressed with how quickly she has adapted to living with us.

The only problem we are having at the moment is night time. She wakes in the night and starts whimpering and that quickly escalates into fretting. And so we have had to take it in turns into going downstairs and giving her some attention until she falls back to sleep. It’ll take a few days I guess, for her to get used to being alone at night.

But, she had me up three times last night, so here I am at eight o’clock in the evening, struggling to keep my eyes open!

The vet has checked her over and given her a clean bill of health, so we are very happy with that, and Mrs M is weaning her off her current food onto that recommended by the vet and the little thing seems to be coping with it admirably.

So, now we just have to get her house trained – inevitably, there have been a few little accidents.

She has only been with us a couple of days, but she is already part of the family and the kids love her to bits.

I’m quite attached, myself.

  1. Looking very cute at the moment. Sounds like she already has her feet under the carpet and ruling the roost.
I guess you do not give her a nice walk when you get up in the morning.
She will soon get used to being on her own night & day.
Mind you how long will it be before she is sleeping on your bed or do you already have a total ban from upstairs.
Will the kids be taking it in turns walking her or clearing up the garden.
Hope you enjoy her as much as we do our 2 mutts.

    1. Oh yeah, she’s cute alright.
No, she’s not allowed out on the lead until she had all her jabs. Not that her collar fits her anyway, despite it being the smallest they had in the shop.
And last night was better: only got up to her once, so we’re heading in the right direction.
Total ban for upstairs… we’ll see how long that lasts.
Kids will walk and clean up after her “all the time”. Again, we’ll see how long that lasts.
      I’m sure we will.

      1. Stairgate on the shopping list then.
We had lots of trouble getting the right size collars for our 2 but I think Saber will soon fit the one you have.
        Have fun & enjoy.

  2. What a gorgeous girl! So pleased to see her at last.
Hope that you get some quiet nights soon. I was lucky with my schnauzer as I didn’t have him until he was 10 weeks, and after about 30 seconds whining the first night he never made a sound……jumped into his crate like a goodun and went to sleep! Also I think that extra 2 weeks helped with the house training too. Only had a couple of ” accidents”. Having said that, he is beside me now whining quietly…I think he wants his walk!
Re your kids walking her…….I hope that they are “fully grown”, or she will pull them over once she gets bigger!!

    1. Well she is getting better – although last night we seem to have taken a backward step!

      1. I have found, in the past, that if I ” tempt fate” it rarely lets me down! Last night the damn dog woke me at 2.30am barking his head off. I had to finally go down to tell him to give over!
