The District Line gets all the fun

If we had a bit more stuff like this on the train, I wouldn’t be so inclined to nod off.
Nice to see the Great British public showing their normal reserve and looking suitably unimpressed.
Personally I thought it brilliant.
Nothing like that ever happens on the snoozy Thameslink.

Ring ring

Well, it’s nearly happened on a few occasions.
Today, it did happen.
I fell asleep on the train.  And missed my stop.
I awoke with a start, one stop further up the line. Suddenly realising where I was, I let out a cry of “Oh shit!”, grabbed my bag and my jacket and legged it toward the already [...]

Stings a bit

Today, I have been under the surgeons knife, having an unsightly lump removed.
And yes, I still have my head.
The lumpy bit concerned was a serbaceous cyst that appeared on my back a couple of years ago.
It never caused me any physical grief but the missus went on and on at me to get it removed. [...]

A rose, by any other name…

During my lunchbreak today, I took a guided tour around The Globe theatre.
It was moste interesting.
The young chap giving the tour was quite posh and certainly seemed to know his subject. It was evident, listening to him, that he had a real passion for Shakespeare and all things Shakespearian.
At the end of the tour, I [...]

peripatetic machinations

London, of course, has many wonderful sights to see, and often, during my lunch break, I’ll go on a bit of a walkabout to see what I can see.
On several occasions, as I’ve wandered around, I have seen ‘icons’ made out of small coloured mosaic tiles, attached to various street corner walls and I [...]

Scammers

Being somewhat straightlaced, it annoys me to see people scamming or taking advantage of others… or the system.
Benefit fraudsters; false tradesmen (love seeing those guys get caught out on Rogue Traders); trick auctioneers (got caught out myself once when caught up in the excitement of bidding for “…one of the very latest Canon cameras…” I [...]

Smee

I gave blood yesterday.
As a sort of security check, when they take you through for the finger-prick test, you are asked for your name, address and date of birth. This I can understand, as obviously they need to ensure that you are who you say you are, and not just some tramp who has come [...]

Get Carter

There is an article in The Guardian today, about my old boss. And I don’t mean the bloke just above me in the management food chain, but the chap right at the top.
Apparently, he now has a job working directly into the Prime Minister as his Chief Advisor… or some such.
He seems to be one [...]

Pants

Be warned: I’m about to talk about my underwear.
On our first visit to New York some years ago, I neglected to pack any pants. Not for any reason in particular, I just forgot. And so, whilst in Bloomingdales, I bought a pack of Bloomingdales’s own brand to see me through the rest of our stay [...]
